Jordyn Courier

The word “can’t” isn’t a part of sophomore Jordyn Courier’s vocabulary. At the House of Speed, she learned that positive attitude and hard work is a winning combination. This has helped her drive the lane to success.

Four years ago, Jordyn began training at the HOS in an effort to improve her overall athletic performance—with an emphasis on basketball skills.

“I wanted to improve my dribbling, get faster and more coordinated,” says Jordyn. “My workouts were focused on ball handling, speed training, and drills to improve my vertical jump.”

At the House of Speed, sports-specific training empowered Jordyn to reach her athletic potential at an early stage of development. Visualization techniques help her stay focused on a positive outcome.

“The training has helped improve my game in many ways, like making better cuts and going strong to the basket,” says Jordyn. “It also reinforced important values, like being prepared, being on time, and fighting through a tough workout.”

“Anyone can teach drills, but the House of Speed really focuses on the mental and character aspect of training,” adds Jordyn’s dad, Wes. “When you feel stronger, you perform better.”

Jordyn’s achievements are proof positive. As a high school freshman, she was named MVP on the varsity basketball team, and led the team in scoring, rebounds and percentage of successful free throws. She also made 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-County her freshman and sophomore years. As a freshman in track, she was a sectional qualifier in 2 events. As a sophomore, she is a sectional qualifier in 3 events, and state qualifier in the 800m relay.

“The House of Speed has helped Jordyn gain the confidence to be comfortable being with athletes who are older,” adds her mother, Deana. “This program emphasizes the basics of being a good person. It’s not just about being faster, it’s about working hard and being part of the team.”

While Jordyn’s relay times get lower, she continues to raise the bar higher in every aspect of life. The high honor student helps younger athletes work on speed training, helps coach a 4th grade girls basketball team, and organized a drive to bring necessities to Hurricane Katrina victims.

Jordyn is just one of many success stories. Whether in sports or in life, the HOS helps dozens of young athletes make peak performance a slam dunk.
